Lillstreet Art Center Seeks Director of Children's Programming

Lillstreet Art Center is looking to hire for the position of Director of Children’s Programming at Lillstreet Art Center. This is a full time position with benefits and insurance. The ideal candidate is someone who is enthusiastic about programming, planning and organizing and collaborating with the school and its many departments to build camp and Kidstreet programming across the year. 

This position begins in September 2025 with possible training for the role in June, or July 2025 as an option.

Role Overview 

The Director of Children’s Programming at Lillstreet is a full time year long position. This position works closely with all 5 departments at Lillstreet which include : Ceramics, Printmaking, Textiles, Drawing & Painting and Metalsmithing. The Director is responsible for planning year long programming for Kidstreet and Summer camp for Lillstreet. Summer and Fall are the busiest hours for this position. Part time availability available outside camp hours. 

Key Responsibilities 

Programming:

  • Maintain core curriculum, develop new programming, and review course proposals for all five class sessions annually. 
  • Communicate with teachers and teaching assistants to create session schedules, including classes, workshops and camps.
  • Coordinate with fellow department directors on shared classroom spaces

Faculty Management: 

  • Interview and hire teachers and teaching assistants for classes, workshops, birthday parties, and camps
  • Schedule teachers for classes, workshops, birthday parties, special events, and more. 
  • Find class substitutes as needed
  • Providing consistent support to faculty in regards to course development, guidance for in-class issues, etc.
  • Communication of all critical or useful information (policy updates, upcoming events, opportunities, etc.)
  • Conduct and communicate yearly evaluations for raise considerations based on student surveys, in-class observations, etc.

Studio Monitor Management: 

  • Hire, supervise and schedule studio monitors 
  • Ensure studio monitor tasks are completed. 
  • Fire kids kilns and wrap student work as needed when monitors are unavailable. 

Additional Responsibilities During Summer Camp : (June to August every year) 

Administrative : 

  • Create a handbook and orientations for summer faculty
  • Hire and supervise Counselors in Training (ages 15-17) on an as needed basis
  • Go over lesson plans and review any changes with teachers
  • Coordinate with director of student services about front desk staff and front door greeter duties
  • Incident reports : report to administration and / or handle, report to parents.
  • Monday Morning check-in
  • First aid/CPR training for teachers; Mandatory reporter training

Programming : 

  • Oversee wheel throwing camp schedules (co-ordinate – firings, glazings, etc.)
  • Check enrollments and numbers for camps. 
  • Connect with the front desk to always contact waitlist camps if someone drops out ; Cancel camps the monday before the next week of camps.
  • Emails for ceramic pick up
  • Meet with the Director of Finance to input subs individually each week. 
  • Look for subs on the weekend if needed
  • Send out weekly camp schedules

 

Other responsibilities include : Classroom & Supply Upkeep, Consistent Parent Communication, Maintain consistent communication with teachers, monitors, Run the Instagram account, Help organize Private events and Birthday parties within Kidstreet and work with Admin to organize Outreach events. 

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in arts, education or equivalent experience ( 2 – 4 years in administration) 
  • Previous teaching experience, or an equivalent combination of education, certification, training, and/or experience.
  • Creative problem solving skills.
  • Ability to make decisions. 
  • Ability to plan ahead and lead projects across departments.
  • Willingness to learn / have training in CPR + background checks
  • Ability to handle conflict and work with kids and parents alike. 
  • Excited to work with a variety of kids from a myriad of backgrounds, experience, skill level, and ability
  • Timely and respectful communication via email with members of the Director and Administration teams

Starts at 48,000/year; based on experience.
